Romani, warm in her japa (parka), sealskin mitts, and atop her caribou skin, jigs for some freshwater fish on the route home - unsuccessfully… but there were still plenty of cod packed away to feast on later!

Arctic jigging, to those who have no idea what's going on here, simply involves a stick of wood, some fishing line, a hook and lure (and maybe a fish eyeball or something attractive like that) and a hole in the 6 or 7 foot deep ice (drilled by a gas-powered auger) in which to shake your stick.
